Origin and Meaning

This is an authentic thangka from Nepal, painted by hand as part of a meditative practice. I purchased it through an importer in 1997.

Yamāntaka is a dharmapāla of Mañjuśrī, one of the oldest and most significant bodhisattvas in Mahāyāna literature. Though fearsome in appearance, Yamāntaka takes this form in compassion, in order to bring forth enlightenment.
